Events this Feburary

There are a number of activities this month, where to start!

Guild Event “The Magic Flute” “Writing For the Puppet Stage” & Mary Nagler Bon Voyage!
Sat., 02/26 at 2-7ish pm

The Magic Flute by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, 2 pm

Libretto by Emanuel Schikaneder Music Direction by Lynne Morrow
Stage Direction Amanda McTigue
Puppet Design and Direction: Mary Hildebrand Nagler
Coproduced by the Music and Theatre Arts & Dance
Evert B. Person Theatre, 1801 East Cotati Avenue, Rohnert Park

This production includes remarkable puppets designed by our own Mary Nagler. Come see a giant snake, little flittery birds, and eight animals representing each continent: N America the Timber wolf, S America the giant tortoise, Australia the Koala, Europe the Chamois antelope, China the Crane, Antarctica the King Penguin, A baby elephant from Eurasia, and an African lion. Oh, and a full sized African Elephant!

The Magic Flute has it all – lovers falling in love tortuously through discovery and challenge, bitter hate-filled ex-spouses, power struggles, juicy villains, mystical beings descending from the skies and puppets! As magical as the flute it celebrates, Mozart’s final opera is beloved for its blend of fantastical storytelling, appealing characters, Shakespearian scope and, always, the exquisite beauty of its music.
